Abstract

Today, it has become very difficult to protect the physiological and psychological health of people living in cities that have to deal with many problems, especially intense human and vehicle activity. Cities; It has turned into a modern, large area where most of the area it covers and its immediate surroundings are made up of unproductive lands, and its relationship with its natural environment has been completely cut off. With population growth and migration movements, millions of lands are joining the urban area from the rural area every year. This situation brings with it many negativities in the city. Difficulty in accessing social life and educational opportunities, traffic problems, unplanned urbanization, natural resources and air pollution, security problems, etc. The problems are increasing every year. Fighting all these, but having to live in the city due to the benefits such as education, health and social life, human beings suffer from epidemic diseases, cancer types, cardiovascular diseases, obesity and physiological disorders such as these, as well as psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety disorder, lack of concentration, in these conditions of cities. is facing ailments. Therefore, cities are turning into structures that threaten the health and well-being of the individual. This study proposes a holistic and disciplinary approach that can be a solution to these problems that cities and therefore citizens face. The study emphasizes the necessity of putting urban people at the center of urban design and finding solutions that aim to make urban people happy in the city with their multi-faceted needs. In addition, this study argues that when viewed from a socio-spatial perspective, the well-being of the citizens can be supported with the right urban design policies. In the study, urban problems related to physical city components, which disrupt the state of health and well-being in cities, were exemplified in the city of Ankara.
