Abstract

Emerging economies need capital accumulation and savings to ensure economic growth and development. To address this need, domestic and international savings form the basis for public and private sector. States need foreign savings because capital accumulation and savings in the country are insufficient. At first, while public sector was benefiting more from foreign saving, today the private sector ,especially in developing countries, has begun to benefit . Especially in recent years, the private sector foreign debt in our country has been far behind the public sector external debt and the vast majority of total foreign borrowing is composed of private sector foreign debt. In this study, the development of the external debt of the private sector in Turkey was examined and the effects of the private sector external debt on the economy were evaluated
