Abstract

The problem of classification of the investigated units the determination of the “better ones” and developing solutions for “worse ones” in this direction is faced by the decision makers in many areas Thus to avoid subjectivity and to make better decisions statistical methods are usually used and the classification with the data in hands is done The mentioned problem is also faced in the “classification of provinces” The government decides to invest in which provinces and which provinces have to be priory developed by classification of the cities by their development Since there are quite a few variables that are thought to measure development multivariate statistical methods are used in the classification of the provinces To collect the regional statistics to make socio economic analyses of the regions to determine the framework of the regional policies and to establish a suitable and comparable database with European Union System Regional Statistical Units Classification is created in 08 28 2002 dated and 2002 4720 written decree By this classification 3 levels of regions are determined There are 12 statistical regions in the first level 26 in the second level and 81 in the third level In this study for the 12 statistical regions in the first level and the development classification of the provinces in these regions is tried to be done To accomplish this aim 21 socio economic variables that are thought to represent the development level are obtained from the SIS and SPO databases Keywords: Factor Analysis Classification of the provinces 12 statistical regions in the first level
