This study aims to discuss the relationships among religious orientation prejudice and intolerance Because acording to Allport the personal structure of man has an influence on his religious life Therefore; it seems that the intrinsic individuals have intrinsic religiosity and the extrinsic individuals have extrinsic religiosity Intrinsically motivated person lives his religion whereas extrinsically motivated person uses his religion For this reason the intrinsic religious person has more tolerance and less prejudice than extrinsic religious person Allport and his collaborationists have found results that support their theoretical foresights in their studies But both in the West and in Turkey results which do not support these findings were found In this study we have worked to test Allport’s theoretical approach on Muslim subjects In this context we studied the correlation among religious orientation of university student and their religious particularism religious dogmatism social distance preferences directed towards religious society and their level of intolerance The results of the study indicate that intrinsic religious students have more prejudice and extrinsic religious students have more tolerance This means that the theoretical approach of Allport is not supported by the example that we practiced Key words: Allport religious orientation intrinsic religiosity extrinsic religiosity prejudice intolerance

Özet
Bu çalışma dinsel eğilimle ön yargı ve hoşgörüsüzlük arasındaki ilişkileri tartışmak istemektedir Çünkü Allport’a göre insanın kişilik yapısı dinsel yaşantısını etkilemektedir Dolayısıyla içe dönük bireylerde içsel derunî bir dindarlık dışa dönüklerde ise buna uygun dış beklentiye yönelik bir dindarlık eğilimi görünmektedir İçe dönük dindarlar inandıkları dini yaşarlar dışa dönükler ise dinlerini kullanma eğilimindedirler Bu sebeple dışa yönelik dindarlara nispetle içe yönelik dindarlar daha az ön yargılı daha fazla hoşgörülüdür Allport ve arkadaşları yaptıkları deneysel çalışmalarda bu teorik öngörüyü destekleyen sonuçlar elde etmişlerdir Ancak gerek Batıda gerekse Ülkemizde bu görüşü desteklemeyen bulgulara da ulaşılmıştır Biz de bu çalışmada Allport’un kuramsal yaklaşımını Müslüman bireyler üzerinde test etmeyi amaçladık Bu çerçevede üniversiteli gençlerin dinsel eğilimleriyle dinsel partikülarizm dinsel dogmatizm dinsel gruplara yönelik sosyal mesafe tercihleri ve hoşgörüsüzlük düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkiyi inceledik Elde edilen sonuçlar; içe dönük dindarların daha ön yargılı dışa dönük dindarlarınsa daha hoşgörülü olduğunu ortaya koymuştur Bu da Allport’un kuramsal yaklaşımının uygulama yaptığımız örneklemde desteklenmediği anlamına gelmektedir Anahtar kelimeler: Allport dinsel eğilim içe dönük dış dönük dindarlık ön yargı hoşgörüsüzlük A Psychological Study About The Relationship Among Religious Orientation Prejudice and Intolerance
