Özet
Çağdaş çocuk eğitimi konusunda yapılan bilimsel araştırmalar ışığında uzmanlar tarafından çeşitli yöntemler geliştirilmiştir. Çağdaş yaklaşımlar içerisinde yer alan ve birçok okul öncesi eğitim kurumunda kullanılan Montessori yaklaşımı, modern eğitim anlayışını benimsemiş olması ile dikkati çekmektedir. İtalya’nın ilk kadın tıp doktoru olan ve daha sonra Roma Üniversitesi’nde psikiyatr uzmanlığını alan Dr. Maria Montessori (1869-1952), görevi sırasında zihinsel engelli çocuklarla ilgilenmiş ve onların özel bir eğitimden geçirilerek gelişmelerine yardımcı olunabileceğini savunmuştur. Bu düşünceden hareketle aynı yöntemlerin normal çocuklar için de kullanılabileceğini düşünerek, çalışmalarını eğitim alanına yöneltmiştir. Çağdaş çocuk eğitimi konusunda önemli isimlerden biri olan Montessori’nin eğitim konusundaki görüşleri günümüzde hala geçerliliğini korumaktadır. Bu çalışmada çocuk eğitimine ilişkin çalışmaları bulunan Dr. Maria Montessori’nin kendi ismi ile anılan Montessori yaklaşımı incelenecektir.
