Abstract

Maintenance operations carried out in the field of aviation are frequently applied to all kinds of air platforms, subsystems and components belonging to these platforms. For air platforms with high component costs, repairing old components instead of replacing them with the new ones is one of the preferred options for aviation companies. The repair cycle of the components includes the inspection of the worn area, the addition of the new materials and/or coatings to the abraded parts and re-machining of the component to ensure final geometry. In the previous years, welding processes have been utilized for adding the new materials to the components. Along with this, developing additive manufacturing technologies take the place of welding process day by day. This is due to the fact that additive manufacturing is more flexible comparing to welding, it inputs lower heat to the material, and it presents better material and surface properties. This publication provides information on the use of additive manufacturing technologies, which have many advantages and which are becoming increasingly important, in maintenance applications. This publication also aims to raise awareness of the relevant industrial-academic institutions and employees in our country about additive manufacturing.
