Abstract

While there is a consensus on the importance of the level of saving and wealth accumulation in an economy, the optimum level of saving rate, how to accumulate wealth and capital, and by whom wealth is controlled are among the heated points of debate in economic literature. Wealth and capital accumulation is very important not only for economic stability but also for economic inequality. In this study, the possession of financial wealth is examined through concentration in bank deposits, and its relationship with economic growth is analyzed using Turkish Banking System data in March 2005-September 2014 period. According to the results of the casualty tests conducted, there is no statistically significant relationship between the possession of financial wealth amount of TL 50.000 and TL 250.000 and economic growth. On the other hand, the possession of deposit amount of TL 1.000.000 and above and growth in gross national product show negative casualty
