Abstract

Objective: To examine the effect of external vibroacoustic stimulation (VAS) on fetal micturition Material and Methods: 38 term pregnancies included the study were divided into two groups as receiving VAS (Group 1; n= 18) and not receiving VAS (Group 2; n=20). Fetal bladder volumes of both groups were calculated by the ultrasound cardiac ventricular volume scale. Fetal bladder measurements were taken 5 and 1 minutes before and 1 and 5 minutes after the VAS in Group I and within same minutes in Group 2 and fetal bladder volumes were recorded. Results: Mean fetal bladder volume 1 minute afterthe VAS was found significantly decreased in Group 1. There were no statistically significant difference between the mean bladder volumes within the same minutes in Group 2. Conclusion: The decrease in mean fetal bladder volume after VAS was thought to be a response of the fetus to stress by micturition.
