Abstract

The idea that members' attitudes towards the union should be evaluated in the context of union-member relation and that positive attitudes can be developed in this context is supported by many applied studies. In terms of union-member relation, the workplace union representative, with whom the members can meet directly and almost every day, and report their requests and complaints, has an important role. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of leadership behavior styles exhibited by union managers and the satisfaction of members with these behaviors on the level of union commitment and union satisfaction. In this context, data were obtained from 285 administrative staff working in public hospitals serving in Erzurum province by applying a questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed by correlation and multiple regression analysis in SPSS 22 program. According to the results, it was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the leadership styles exhibited by the workplace union representatives and the union commitment and union satisfaction levels of the members. In addition, it was concluded that the leadership behaviors exhibited by the workplace union representatives explained 73% of the change in the union satisfaction levels of the members and approximately 30% of the change in the union commitment levels.
