Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease occurring under conditions when the pancreas cannot secrete sufficient insulin or when the body cannot utilize the secreted insulin efficiently. Due to high rates of morbidity and mortality on one hand and the burden it exerts on society due to the high treatment expenditure involved and loss of work-force on the other, diabetes is a grave health problem. Nerve damage and obtsructive vein disorders resulting from diabetes complications together affect the lower extremities of the body most. Diabetic foot syndrome is one of the most serious and severe complications of diabetes mellitus and occurs as a result of neuropathy and vascular deficiency being together. For these reasons diabetic patients should be observed carefully and the necessary training and care should be given with this respect.
