Abstract

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has become the "Gold Standard" therapy for the treatment of the gallbladder diseases. We carried out ,140 laparoscopic cholecystectomy at the General Surgery Clinic of Nizip State Hospital between January 1998-November 1999. One hundred eight (77.2%) of the patients were female and thirty-two (22.8%) were male. The average age was 49 years. Diagnosis was performed by the abdominal ultrasonography. There were cholecystolithiasis in 138 cases and gallbladder polyp and acalculous cholecystitis each in one case. The rate of conversion to laparotomy is 3.5%. The rate of major complications was 1.4% (2 cases: choledocus injury and excessive bleeding from the gallbladder bed). There is no mortality in our series. The mean operation time was 46 minutes. The mean discharge time was 2 days. In the light of these findings, we think that LC is a safe method even in the town hospitals, as is accepted in many centers.
