Abstract

Ascariasis is common in tropical and hot areas of world. It, rarely, may cause serious abdominal complications. In the present study, a 12-year-old boy, who was admitted to the hospital with the symptoms and signs of acute abdomen is presented. He underwent laparotomy, obstruction of the ileum due to a large mass of Ascaris lumbricoides was found and a number of worms were extracted by enterotomy. In conclusion, physicians should consider ascariasis in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen.
