Abstract

Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923), who is referred as an economist and sociologist, represents a mentality which is not used in economics sociology and that is rarely seen in the other fields of sociology. Pareto suggests empirical examples by emphasizing the irrational parts of human life which form the basis of the sociological perspective and by dealing with the dynamics of society. Pareto makes contributions to welfare economics by developing sociological theories based on logical and illogical behaviours, residues and formations, elite (intelligentia), renters and speculators. He developed a general theory of social inequality considering income differences between societies. Pareto's approach underlines individual income rather than class discriminations, the whole of socio-economic distribution rather than the statistics, social heterogeneity rather than the gaps in social structure, and unequal structure due to the distribution of individuals’ opportunities and abilities. In this study it has been aimed to evaluate Pareto's foresight, who developed a common perspective on economics and sociology, lead socio-economic approaches about equality and its effects to welfare economics.
