Abstract

Congenital heart disease occurs in approximately 5-8 of 1,000 live births. Among these diseases mitral stenosis, ASD and hypoplastic aorta are even more rare. A 2.5 years old girl was admitted to our clinic because of weariness. As long as we have understood from the history of the patient with mitral stenosis, ASD and hypoplastic aorta; postnatally she was hospitalized with the complaint of icterus. On her physical examination cardiac murmur was detected and echocardiography reveals mitral stenosis, ASD and hypoplastic aorta. Because she was a neonate and her family did not want any surgical intervention at that time, she was suggested to be reviewed regularly by a pediatric cardiologist. When she was 11 month old, a surgical intervention was required with the determination of increased transmitral gradient (18 mniHg), enlargement of the left atrium (4x4.5cm2) and pulmonary hypertension (PAP 40mmHg) on echocardiography. On her operation prosthetic mitral valve ( number 18) was used. When she was 2.5 years old, restenotic symptoms were found clinically and echocardiographically and she is still regularly on evaluation. We report this case because congenital mitral stenosis associated with ASD and hypoplastic aorta is very rare.
