Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the tear meniscus changes after instillation of artificial tear in dry eye patients using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Methods: Twenty eight eyes of 14 symptomatic dry eye patients were examined. All patients underwent opthtalmic examination, tear film break-up time measurement and Schirmer test with anesthesia. Tear film meniscus area (TFMA) was measured before and after month of regular use of artificial tear by using ASOCT. Results: Mean TFMA before instillation of artificial tear was 0,0350i0,0128 (0,0301-0,0400) mm'. Mean TFMA after month of regular use of artificial tear was 0,0282i0,0269 (0,0148-0,0416) mmz. The mean TFMA was not significantly different between two groups (p>0,05). Conclusion: High resolution imaging of lower tear film meniscus with clinical optical coherence tomography systems provides useful, noncontact, noninvasive measures of TFM.

Özet

Amaç: Kuru gözlü olgularda yapay gözyaşı sonrası gözyaşı menisküs değişikliklerini ön segment optik koherens tomografi (ÖS--OKT) kullanarak değerlendirmek. Metod: Kuru göz sendromlu 14 hastanın 28 gözü değerlendirildi. Tüm hastalara oftalmolojik muayene, gözyaşı kırılma zamanı ölçümü ve anestezili Schirmer testi uygulandı. Yapay gözyaşı kullanmadan önce ve ay düzenli kullanım sonrası gözyaşı film menisküs alanı (GFMA) ÖS--OKT kullanılarak ölçüldü. Bulgular: Yapay gözyaşı uygulanmadan ölçülen ortalama GFMA 0,0350i0,0128 (0,0301-0,0400) mm2 idi. Bir aylık düzenli yapay gözyaşı kullanımı sonrası ölçülen ortalama GFMA 0,0282i0,0269 (0,0148-0,0416) mm2 idi. İki grup arasında ortalama GFMA ölçümü arasında anlamlı fark saptanmadı (p>0,05). Sonuç: Alt gözyaşı film menisküsünün optik koherens tomografi ile yüksek çözünürlüklü görüntülenmesi GFM'nin noninvaziv, nonkontakt olarak değerlendirilmesini sağlamaktadır.
