Abstract

Background: To compare Ocular Surface Disease Index [OSDI, Allergan Inc., (Irvine, Calif)] survey, Schirmer test and tear break-up time (TBUT) results in eyes with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and without. Methods: Thirty two eyes of 16 patients with MGD (Group A) and 32 eyes of 16 healthy subjects (Group B) were evaluated. After performing visual acuity and detailed ophthalmic exami- nation, OSDI survey was performed in all patients. Schirmer test without anesthesia and TBUT measurement were applied to all patients. Results: The mean age of Group A was 26.9±4.9 years (10 female, 6 male) and Group B was 27.3±5.1 years (9 female, 7 male). There was no statistical difference in age and sex between the two groups (p=0,65; p=0,78). Monocular best-corrected visual acu- ity with Snellen chart was 10/10 in all patients. The mean OSDI survey scoring was 45.5±15 in Group A and 9.4±37 in Group B, and there was a statistically significant difference between two groups (p
