Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effect of indoor smok-ing on pulmonary function of primary school children was aimed in this study. Methods: Eightyfour passive smokers (44 girls, 40 boys) and 40 passive nonsmokers (20 girls, 24 boys), aged 9-11 years were involved in the study. Vital capacity, forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second, "forced expiratory volume / forced vital capacity" and mean forced expiratory flow during the middle half of the forced vital capacity (forced expiratory flow 25-75%) were measured. Results: Vital capacity, forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume values were significantly reduced in exposed children (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that the passive smoking reduced to the pulmonary function (vital capacity, forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume) in school children.

Özet

Amaç: Ev ortamında sigara dumanına maruz kalan çocuklarda solunum fonksiyonlarının incelenmesi amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Dokuz-11 yaş grubundaki pasif içici 84 çocuk (44 kız, 40 erkek) ile sigara dumanına hiç maruz kalmayan 40 çocuk (20 kız, 24 erkek) olmak üzere toplam 128 çocuk çalışma kapsamına alındı. Her iki gruptaki çocuklarda vital kapasite, zorlu vital kapasite, birinci saniyedeki zorlu ekspirasyon volümü, "zorlu ekspirasyon volümü / zorlu vital kapasite" ve zorlu ekspirasyonun orta yarısındaki ortalama zorlu akım hızı değerleri ölçüldü.
