Abstract

Osteochondroma is the most common bone tumor and represents approximately 35-50% of the benign bone tumors. Occasionally it appears as multiple osteochondroma and is hereditary. Malignant transformation of multiple cartilagnous exostosis has been reported to occur in 5-25% of the patients, and usually appears between 20 and 40 years of age. Radiographic findings are also valuable for diagnosing malignant transformation of the osteochondroma. The early radiographic changes of malignant transformation of the exostoses are: an indistinct margin, a soft tissue mass with or without mineralization, and an area of lucency within the osteochondroma near the cartilaginous cap. We report a case of a patient who developed a secondary chondrosarcoma in this setting.
