Abstract

Advances in biotechnology and drug use from therapeutic and non-therapeutic human development practices have always been controversial, and in many cases it is difficult to determine the limits of these uses. An overview of the concept of human enhancement, positive growth of human existence or improvement of human beings, and an analysis of the psychostimulant methyl phenidate ‘‘ known as Ritalin ’’ has been tried to contribute to the understanding of the subject. On the one hand, Ritalin can be used as a therapeutic treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), while on the other hand it may shed light on human development discussions with non-therapeutic use of children in order to increase school success or to improve the success of adults in business life. While the ethical debates continue, the legal dimension can be taken into consideration by using the existing legal arrangements.
