Abstract

Th e products of important workshops of Western Anatolia, namely Ephesos, Pergamon, and Kyme usually dominate the imported moldmade relief bowls in the Black Sea Region. Th e examples found in Kurul Fortress which form the subject of this study, are regarded as the imported vessels of the Western Anatolian origin by considering their fabric and surface characteristics. In this regard, about 60 of 72 pieces of moldmade relief bowls in total, which were found in the excavations of Kurul Fortress between 2010 and 2019, are associated with the Grey Ware productions of Ionian-Ephesian workshops. Th e few remaining examples comprise of the pieces thought to be Pergamene production, one of another Western Anatolian workshops. Th e moldmade bowls in question are dated to a quite short time period from the end of the 2nd century BC to the second half of the 1st century BC. Th ese dates which are only limited to the period of Mithradates VI, are also supported with other archaeological data from Kurul Fortress.
