Abstract

The aim of the study is that determination of the clothing effects, which is the one of the most important parameters affecting the thermal comfort conditions, on the heat losses from the body to environment and the thermal comfort conditions. Simulation of the heat-mass transfer between the body and its environment and reactions of thermoregulation control mechanism of the body were performed. Fundamental heat-mass transfer equations for calculating, thermal exchange between the body and its environment and empirical relations for determining the effects of the body physiology were used. Variation of sensible-latent heat losses from body to environment, and PMV and PPD thermal comfort indices with different clothing insulation and ambient temperature were given. Moreover, the effects of the clothing on the required ambient conditions for the thermal comfort were examined. It is concluded that ambient temperature should be decreased for the thermal comfort conditions since the energy balance between the body and environment were established at lower ambient temperatures with increasing the thermal and evaporative resistances of clothing. In addition to this, the results show that thermal comfort zone widen with increasing the clothing resistance, namely human feels himself in comfort at a more large range of environmental conditions.
