Abstract

Tuberculosis of the middle ear is a rare disease. The typical clinical signs of this disease have changed in recent years. It is generally accepted that a high index of suspicion for tuberculosis otitis media (TOM) is required to make the correct preoperative diagnosis, especially in patients who do not seem to improve with standard therapy for nontuberculous infections. Early diagnosis and therapy may prevent or limit to complications such as facial nerve paraly-sis. Medical therapy with antituberculous drugs usually effective and surgery is rarely needed. We present here a 43-year-old male with tuberculous otitis media as a rare case. The literature was reviewed and characteristics of this disease were presented.
