Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze educational technology competencies of secondary school students according to various variables. The sample of this study, in which the descriptive survey model is used, consisted of a total of 920 students who are studying in 6th, 7th and 8th grades of secondary schools in the central districts of Van province which were İpekyolu, Tuşba and Edremit in the 2017-2018 academic year. In order to determine educational technology competencies of secondary school students, Educational Technology Standards Scale was used. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and differential statistics (t Test, ANOVA) were used in the analysis of research data. As a result of the study, it was found that secondary school students had a high level of educational technology competencies as well as a high level of technology literacy, creativity, and innovation skills while the competencies of digital citizenship and participation they possess were at a moderate level. Findings showed that male students compared to female students, the students having 440os ma 440os mart boards in their classrooms compared to the ones who did not have, students having internet connection in their homes compared to the ones who did not have, students having opportunities for utilizing technological tools such as computers, smartphones, and tablet computers compared to the ones who did not have, possessed a higher level of educational technology competencies. It was concluded that as the parents’ educational level and income level increase, the students’ educational technology competencies also increase.
