Abstract

As the altimetry satellites have been launched and Sea Surface Height (SSH) observations have been made available to the user community within the last 15 years especially, monitoring the oceans and various geoscience applications have been achieved by the sciencists. In this study; sea level, sea slope and sea level difference between the north and the south coast of the Marmara Sea have been investigated along satellite tracks by making use of ERS-1, ERS-2 and TOPEX/POSEIDON satellite altimetry observations. Computations along satellite tracks showed that the sea level in the north of the Marmara Sea is 7.1 -11.5 cm lower than the sea level in the south.

Özet

Özellikle son 15 yılda altimetre uydularından elde edilen deniz yüzeyi yüksekliği ölçülerinin kullanıcılara sunulmasıyla deniz yüzeyinin izlenmesi ve yer bilimlerinde çok çeşitli çalışmaların yapılması olanağı sağlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada; Marmara Denizinde ERS-1, ERS-2 ve TOPEX/POSEIDON uydu altimetre ölçüleri kullanılarak uydu izleri boyunca deniz yüzeyi yükseklik değerleri, deniz yüzeyi eğimi ve Marmara Denizinin kuzey ve güney kıyıları arasındaki deniz yüzeyi yükseklik farkı incelenmiştir. Uydu izleri boyunca iki farklı veri grubu ile yapılan hesaplamalar sonucunda Marmara Denizinin kuzey kıyısında deniz yüzeyi yüksekliğinin güney kıyısına göre ortalama olarak 7.1 -11.5 cm aşağıda olduğu belirlenmiştir.
