Abstract

The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of political and financial risk on the return on assets of the manufacturing sector. For this purpose, quarterly data obtained from several databases for 1997-2015 period were analyzed using the bounds test and ARDL method. The political risk index was established using corruption, democratic accountability, law and order, government stability and bureaucracy quality components. The financial risk index was obtained from the ICRG International Country Risk Guide data set. The results reveal that political and financial risks have a significant negative effect on the return on assets of the manufacturing sector. According to the empirical findings of the model in this study, an increase in the level of political risk and financial risk in the country affects the return on assets of the manufacturing sector negatively

Özet

Çalışmanın amacı politik ve finansal riskin, imalat sektörünün aktif karlılığı üzerindeki etkisini araştırmaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda 1997-2015 dönemine ait farklı veri dağıtım kaynaklarından elde edilen üçer aylık veriler, sınır testi ve ARDL yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Politik risk endeksi yolsuzluk, demokratik hesap verebilirlik, kanun ve düzen, hükümet istikrarı ve bürokratik kalite bileşenleri kullanılarak oluşturulmuştur. Finansal risk endeksi ise ICRG International Country Risk Guide veri setinden sağlanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, politik ve finansal riskin imalat sektörünün aktif karlılığı üzerinde negatif yönlü anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Çalışmada incelenen modelin ampirik bulgularına göre, ülkedeki politik risk ve finansal risk düzeyinin artması, imalat sektörünün aktif karlılığını olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir.
