Workers, who have had to struggle with many problems since their existence. The problems that workers still have to contend with today form the main theme of this paper. This paper first examines the concept of the worker and their social position within society, and then makes observations about the problems of workers through Orhan Kemal's work, On Fertile Lands. The methodology in this study included a literature review and work focused content analysis. This paper examines the enigma; how many of the workers' problems have been resolved; through the mentioned work by Kemal, which he wrote based on his observations and experiences. In conducting this paper, the researchers addressed the labor concerns of the workers and the economic and socio-cultural problems that arise as a result of these concerns. Üretimin her alanında yer alan işçi, ekonominin ve toplumun önemli bir bileşeni olup ücret karşılığında emeğini satan kişidir. Günümüzde hala devam etmekte olan işçilerin mücadele etmek zorunda kaldıkları sorunlar çalışmanın ana temasını oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada ilk olarak işçi kavramı ve işçilerin toplum içindeki sosyal konumu incelenmiş ve sonrasında Orhan Kemal’in Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde adlı eseri kapsamında işçilerin sorunlarına dair tespitlerde bulunulmuştur. Çalışmada yöntem olarak; kapsamlı bir literatür değerlendirmesinden ve eser odaklı içerik analizinden faydalanılmıştır. İşçilerin, sınıf bilinci kapsamında örgütlenmek suretiyle haklarını arama teşebbüsünde bulunmaları sanayi devrimi sonrasında görülmüş ve bu teşebbüsler doğrultusunda işçilerin görünürlüğü artmıştır. Görünürlüğü artan işçilerin sorunlarının ne kadarının çözüme kavuşturulabildiği ise günümüzde dahi muammadır. Çalışma bu muammayı Orhan Kemal’in işçilerin kendi gözlem ve deneyimlerinden yola çıkarak kaleme aldığı anılan eser vasıtasıyla incelemiş; işçilerin emek kaygısı ve bu kaygı beraberinde ortaya çıkan ekonomik ve sosyo-kültürel problemleri dile getirmiştir. Kemal’in eserinde ulaşılan toplumsal gerçekçilik; emek kaygısını işçinin nihayetinde bireysel yaşadığı, bu kaygının pek çok ekonomik ve sosyo-kültürel problemi beraberinde getirdiği ve işçinin düşmanının yine bir diğer işçi olduğudur.
