Abstract

Post-disaster reconstruction processes typically prioritize physical recovery, infrastructure rehabilitation, and economic revitalization, while the role of cultural heritage sites in the reconstruction of collective memory remains insufficiently addressed. This approach reduces cultural heritage to a physical asset requiring preservation and weakens the continuity of spatial meaning. This study examines how cultural heritage sites can be reconceptualized as active spatial components that support collective memory in post-disaster reconstruction and explores the potential contribution of non-invasive spatial representation approaches to this process. To this end, relevant national and international academic studies, together with international policy documents, were examined within a conceptual framework. The evaluation indicates that representational tools such as interpretive panels, routes designed around spatial experience, digital storytelling applications, and temporary or permanent memorial spaces can enhance the visibility of the layered meanings embedded in cultural heritage sites, thereby supporting the continuity of collective memory and the reconstruction of urban identity. By examining the relationship between cultural heritage, collective memory, and spatial representation through an integrated conceptual perspective, this study provides a theoretical contribution to the literature on post-disaster reconstruction.
