Abstract

The impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are beginning to be felt globally in many areas, leading to a new approach to employment and labor rights. In this context, the labor rights offered by the green economy, which emerged as a result of the global environmental crisis, are gaining significant importance. While the green economy and the Islamic economy are two distinct economic models, both prioritize human dignity and emphasize fair and inclusive principles. The purpose of this study is to identify the principles put forward by the green economy and the Islamic economy regarding the protection of labor rights and to highlight their similarities and differences. The study focuses on the just transition and green jobs that come to the forefront of the green economy model. Both economic models emphasize fundamental labor rights such as fair wages, equal pay for equal work, and social security. The study's findings indicate that the two economic models share many similarities regarding labor rights. The green economy prioritizes environmental sustainability and supports the just transition to achieve the green transition. It supports skills training to eliminate potential job losses during the green transition in fossil fuel-dependent sectors. Islamic economics, on the other hand, prioritizes justice, equity, social solidarity, and the prohibition of oppression, drawing on religious principles. Islamic economics actively utilizes the principle of non-harm in ensuring environmental order in business life and does not involve high costs, as in the green transition. Keywords: Green Economy, Islamic Economy, Green Jobs, Just Transition, Workers' Rights. JEL Classification: J83, Q59
