Abstract

Turkey is a country where many disasters such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, forest fires, especially earthquakes are observed in terms of its geological, topographical and meteorological structure and contains many risky regions in terms of disasters. Considering the severity and magnitude of disasters and population density, it is seen that the structural damages caused by disasters in our country are significant. Current disaster management is in the direction of taking necessary precautions before the disaster occurs, foreseeing the need for shelter units before the disaster occurs due to structural damages that may occur according to disaster scenarios, and realizing the relevant regulations regarding the areas of responsibility of different disciplines. After disasters, it is a very important issue to find solutions to the shelter problem from the first day following the disaster. In this context, studies on the design criteria of post-disaster temporary shelter units in the field of architecture have a great role. Although there are studies on the discussion of criteria and determination of their weights in the literature, it is seen that there is a gap in the literature that there is no common approach in the creation and classification of criteria. In addition, the same criteria are expressed with different terminologies and categorized under different main headings, which leads to confusion of meaning. Therefore, the aim of this study is to make an original classification proposal by conducting a literature study to systematically compile and categorize the criteria in the literature. Within the scope of this study, the criteria were categorized into 8 main headings and 66 sub-criteria by conducting a correlational categorization of the criteria identified as a result of bibliometric analysis and literature research. Then, the prominent criteria were determined by frequency factor analysis. Thus, it is foreseen to contribute to the literature in terms of grouping the design criteria of temporary shelter units within the framework of main headings and sub-criteria and to provide a design basis for scientific studies on this subject and shelter prototypes to be created.
