Abstract

In this study; the reasons for the divergence between Turkey and the world food prices are tried to be revealed. After 1980, the effects of neoliberal economic policies in the agricultural sector are seen as the most important factor in the divergence between developed and developing countries in terms of food prices. In this framework; firstly, the factors determining food prices will be analysed in terms of global food demand and global food supply. The structural reasons that determine the global food supply deficit and differentiate prices are identified as technological development and incompatibilities in macroeconomic policies, migration, climate crisis, privatization, wars and global food monopolies. The aim of the study is to discuss these factors, which are thou ght to cause the increase in global food prices and the increase in Turkey's food prices. It is concluded that the upward trend in food prices in Turkey is a reflection of macroeconomic imbalances, especially the problem in monetary policy, as well as structural problems involving economic efficiency and productivity in agriculture.
