Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of static and dynamic stretching exercises on athletes' sprint performance and to determine which type of stretching exercise was more effective on sprint performance. A total of 16 athletes participating in amateur sports in Gümüşhane during the 2024 season volunteered to participate in the study. General information was provided about the 16 athletes participating in this study. Before beginning the exercises, the athletes were randomly divided into two groups. One of these groups was designated the Static Stretching group and the other the Dynamic Stretching group. Before starting the training, the athletes' height (cm) and weight (kg) were measured, and 10m and 20m sprints were administered as a pre-test. The training lasted 6 weeks and was conducted 3 days a week. At the end of the training program, 10m and 20m sprint measurements were taken as a post-test, and analyses were conducted to determine changes between the pre-test and post-test. While no significant difference was found in the 10m and 20m sprint measurements of the Static Stretching Group, a significant difference was found in the 10m and 20m sprint measurements of the Dynamic Stretching Group. In this study, following a six-week warm-up protocol, athletes performing dynamic stretching exercises were found to have more effective 10m and 20m sprint test results compared to the static stretching group. Consequently, dynamic stretching exercises yielded more positive results than static stretching exercises when performed before competition
