Abstract
This study aims to examine boycott posters, which have become effective tools of consumer activism in the digital age, within the framework of Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis model. These posters, which circulate in digital media environments, generate meanings for consumers and construct ideological discourses through symbols, images, colors, and slogans. However, how the signs in these visual texts guide consumer perception and how the ideological structures behind these discourses are established has not been sufficiently examined. This constitutes the main problem area of the research. In this study, a qualitative research method was adopted; four boycott posters published on the www.gzt.com website between October 23 and December 1, 2023, were selected as the sample. In the semiotic analysis process, the denotative (primary) and connotative (secondary) layers of meaning in the posters were analyzed; in particular, the ways in which symbols are transformed, the militaristic elements incorporated into brand logos, and the ideological appeals directed to the consumer through these visual discourses were examined. The findings reveal that boycott posters not only offer an economic call to action but also propose a political and ideological stance to consumers. Through parody and deformation techniques, brands are reinterpreted as symbolic representatives of the global capitalist system and unethical practices. In this context, the consumer is transformed from a passive subject into an active actor who produces political and cultural meanings. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that consumer behavior is a multifaceted practice intertwined with social consciousness, identity, and ideological forms of expression.
Özet
Bu çalışma, dijital çağda tüketici aktivizminin etkili araçlarından biri haline gelen boykot afişlerini, Roland Barthes’in göstergebilimsel çözümleme modeli çerçevesinde incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır.
