Abstract
Background: Breast milk taken in the first months of the baby's life is very important in terms of protecting and improving the health of women and babies, and psycho-social health. Objectives: In this study, it was aimed to examine the breastfeeding behaviors of mothers who applied for breastfeeding support in the postpartum period. Methods: As a descriptive study, the research was conducted in a training and research hospital in İzmir between July and December 2022. A total of 195 women who applied to the breastfeeding outpatient clinic in the 6-week postpartum period and were determined by the improbable sampling method were included in the study. Data were collected using a personal information form, Lactation Diagnostic Measurement Tool (LATCH) and Breastfeeding Observation Form. Number and percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, Independent sample t test, Anova test were used in the analysis of the data. Values with p <0.05 were considered statistically significant in the study. Results: In this study, the mean score of the women from the LATCH Scale was 6.37±2.19, and the mean score they got from the Armstrong Breastfeeding Observation Form was 29.88±1.25. In the correlation analysis between the LATCH scale mean scores and the Armstrong Breastfeeding Observation Form, it was determined that there was a weak positive correlation. Conclusion: In the study, it was observed that breastfeeding success and breastfeeding proficiency levels of mothers were moderate. It was determined that mothers with high breastfeeding success also had high breastfeeding proficiency and behaviors. In addition, results were obtained that positive breastfeeding behaviors of mothers who received breastfeeding education in the early postpartum period increased and they breastfed more successfully.

Giriş: Bebeğin yaşamının ilk aylarında alınan anne sütü kadın ve bebek sağlığının korunması, geliştirilmesi ve psiko-sosyal sağlıkları bakımından oldukça önemlidir. Amaç: Bu çalışmada doğum sonu dönemde emzirme desteği için başvuran annelerin emzirme davranışlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Araştırma tanımlayıcı olarak Temmuz-Aralık 2022 tarihleri arasında, İzmir’de bir eğitim araştırma hastanesin yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya bu hastaneye doğum sonu 6 haftalık dönemde emzirme polikliniğine başvuran ve olasılıksız örneklem yöntemi ile belirlenen 195 kadın alınmıştır. Veriler, kişisel bilgi formu, Emzirme Tanılama Ölçüm Aracı (LATCH) ve Emzirme Gözlem Formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde sayı ve yüzde dağılımı, ortalama, standart sapma, Bağımsız örneklem t testi, Anova testi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada p <0.05 olan değerler istatiksel olarak anlamlı kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Bu araştırmada kadınların LATCH ölçeğinden aldıkları puan ortalaması 6.37±2.19, Armstrong Emzirme Gözlem Formundan aldıkları puan ortalaması 29.88±1.25 olarak saptanmıştır. LATCH ölçeği puan ortalamaları ile Armstrong Emzirme Gözlem Formu arasında yapılan korelasyon analizinde, pozitif yönde zayıf düzeyde bir ilişkinin olduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Çalışmada annelerin emzirme başarılarının ve emzirme yeterlilik düzeylerinin orta düzeyde olduğu görülmüştür. Emzirme başarıları yüksek olan annelerin emzirme yeterlilik ve davranışlarının da yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca doğum sonu erken dönemde emzirme eğitimi alan annelerin olumlu emzirme davranışlarının arttığına ve daha başarılı emzirdiğine dair sonuçlar elde edilmiştir.
