Abstract

Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and occurs more frequently in men than in women. Given its high prevalence, the provision of comprehensive nursing care is essential. The primary aim of nursing care is to deliver services that respect individuals’ cultural values and lifestyles. In this case report, the cultural characteristics and practices of a patient with bladder cancer were evaluated using Leininger’s Sunrise Model. Prior to data collection, both the patient and her spouse were informed about the study, and written and verbal informed consent were obtained. During the assessment, it was identified that the patient was using an herbal mixture of unknown content. Through the cultural care restructuring process, the patient was educated to discontinue the use of these herbal mixtures. Throughout this process, the questions of both the patient and her husband were addressed. In conclusion, transcultural nursing care was provided using Leininger’s Sunrise Model. This model serves as an important guide for delivering culturally sensitive care. It is recommended that nurses utilize this model to enhance their cultural competence and to systematically assess patients’ cultural needs.
