Abstract

This study systematically evaluates the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and collaboration patterns of energy efficiency and renewable energy research related to Kosovo through a bibliometric analysis covering 71 publications indexed in the Scopus database between 2010 and 2025. The analysis examines annual publication trends, citation structure, leading publication sources, keyword co-occurrence networks, thematic transformation, and international collaboration networks. The findings reveal that academic interest in Kosovo’s energy sector has increased substantially, particularly after 2020. The dataset yields an h-index of 11, a total citation count of 442, and an average of 6.23 citations per publication. The keyword co-occurrence network identifies four thematic clusters: fossil fuels and environmental impacts, renewable energy and policy, energy systems and integration, and building energy efficiency. The overlay visualization analysis demonstrates a measurable thematic shift from traditional electricity generation and infrastructure debates toward sustainability, climate policy, and decarbonization themes. The country collaboration network indicates that Kosovo’s energy research is supported by both regional and international academic partnerships. Overall, the findings suggest that Kosovo’s energy efficiency and renewable energy literature is becoming increasingly sustainability-oriented and policy-focused, reflecting the growing strategic importance of the renewable energy transition in the country’s evolving energy agenda. By mapping the thematic transformation of Kosovo’s energy literature, this study provides a useful reference framework for researchers and policymakers concerned with renewable energy integration, energy efficiency policies, and decarbonization strategies.
