Abstract
This study aims to classify the quality costs of a sugar factory operating in Türkiye for 2023 and 2024 within the framework of the PAF (Prevention, Appraisal, Failure) Model and to identify the cost items with the greatest impact using Pareto analysis. In the study, quality costs were examined by categorizing them into prevention, appraisal, internal, and external failure groups, and analyzed within the Pareto principle. As a result of the research, it was determined that approximately 80% of total quality costs stemmed from seven cost items in 2023 and eight cost items in 2024. The findings indicate that, despite increased investments in preventive activities, failure costs remain at a critical level, and specific items such as packaging, maintenance, repair, and insurance constitute a significant portion of the total cost burden. In this regard, the following recommendations were made to the company: expanding the implementation of preventive maintenance practices, improving quality planning processes, increasing employee quality training, enhancing supplier evaluation systems, supporting measurement and control activities with automation systems, and increasing investments in laboratory testing and calibration.
