Abstract

This study examines the temporal activity patterns of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in Antalya Province, Türkiye, based on camera trap data. Between 2021 and 2025, a total of 8,850 trap-days were obtained from 300 camera trap stations, yielding 166 independent lynx records. Daily, seasonal, and monthly activity patterns were analyzed using circular statistics in ORIANA 4.0. The results indicate that the Eurasian lynx exhibits a predominantly nocturnal and crepuscular activity pattern. Activity peaks were observed during the evening (20:00–23:00) and early morning hours (04:00–08:00), while activity levels were minimal during midday. Seasonal analyses revealed that lynx activity shifted toward nighttime during summer, likely in response to high temperatures, whereas increased activity levels were observed during winter and autumn. Monthly patterns showed that the species remains active throughout the year, with fluctuations in activity intensity influenced by environmental conditions. Overall, the findings suggest that lynx activity patterns are shaped by prey behavior, climatic factors, and human disturbance. The predominance of nocturnal and crepuscular activity can be interpreted as both an ecological adaptation and a temporal avoidance strategy in response to anthropogenic pressures. This study provides important insights into the temporal ecology of the Eurasian lynx in Türkiye and contributes to the development of effective conservation and management strategies.
