Abstract
Aim: This research is about coronary artery bypass was conducted to determine the effect of psychoeducation and progressive relaxation exercise given to patients undergoing graft surgery on the level of anxiety related to the surgery. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in a research hospital in Istanbul with 66 patients who would undergo coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The data were collected using Personal Information Form, Surgery-Specific Anxiety Scale (SSAS), Psychoeducation and Progressive Relaxation Exercise Evaluation Form and Patient Follow-up Form. Results: When the SSAS mean scores of the patients in the experimental and control group were compared in the pretest, 1st, 2nd and 3rd measurements, the difference between them was found to be insignificant (p>0.05). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate of the patients in the experimental group showed a significant decrease compared to the 1st measurement (p<0.05). Conclusion: It can be said that the psychoeducation and progressive relaxation exercise given to the patients had no effect on the anxiety levels of the patients related to the surgery, and the psychoeducation and progressive relaxation exercise applied to the patients in the experimental group provided a decrease in the respiratory rate, heart rate and blood pressure levels of the patients.
