Abstract

Climate change represents one of the most urgent global health challenges of the 21st century, posing a multidimensional threat that directly and indirectly undermines the well-being of individuals, communities, and healthcare systems. In this context, the perceptions of nursing students—future frontline health advocates—are pivotal. Their knowledge, awareness, attitudes, and concerns regarding climate change constitute critical determinants that may shape both their professional responsibilities and the broader health outcomes of the populations they serve. This traditional review synthesizes current literature on nursing students’ perceptions of climate change. Evidence indicates that while students possess foundational knowledge about the health impacts of climate change, they remain inadequately informed about sustainability, institutional responsibilities, and their professional roles in mitigating environmental risks. Students generally exhibit an optimistic outlook; however, moderate levels of concern are prevalent, often translating into limited behavioral change. The literature highlights the urgent need to restructure nursing education to comprehensively integrate climate change and environmental health content. Specifically, the incorporation of digital-based educational strategies and evidence-informed practices can enhance students’ knowledge and awareness, foster positive attitudes, alleviate climate-related anxiety, and strengthen their capacity to assume active roles in environmental stewardship.
