Abstract

Objective: Theses, which are the primary outputs of postgraduate studies, represent in-depth research conducted on a specific subject. The aim of this study is to qualitatively analyze the postgraduate thesis studies conducted in dental faculties in Turkey using fluoride material in the light of the determined parameters. Material and Method: In this study, thesis studies were searched by using the key words ‘fluorine’, “fluoride”, and ‘fluorid’ from the National Thesis Database of the Turkish Council of Higher Education. The theses included in the study (n=83) were evaluated by using document and content analysis methods; thesis year, number of pages, language, supervisor title, main discipline, city where the thesis was conducted and types of fluoride materials used. Descriptive statistical methods were applied to analyse the data obtained. Results: It was determined that most of the theses analysed were written in Turkish language (n=81, %97,59) and the highest number of thesis studies (n=12, %14.29) were conducted in 2023. Of the theses evaluated, 49 were doctoral theses, 33 were speciality theses and 1 was a master's thesis. It was determined that most of the thesis studies were carried out in the main branch of Pedodontics Conclusion: It was observed that fluoride applications, which are preventive treatment options, were the subject of many postgraduate theses and it was thought that it could be the subject of more theses. The majority of the reviewed theses consisted of doctoral studies, and most of the research was conducted in the Department of Pedodontics. Sodium fluoride was identified as the most frequently preferred formulation. It was also determined that the majority of the theses were written in Turkish and that the supervisors predominantly held the title of professor. Further studies are needed to investigate the combined use of fluoride with different remineralizing agents.
