Abstract

Child sexual abuse is a major child protection issue that adversely affects children's physical, psychological, and social development and constitutes one of the key research areas within the field of social work. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to examine the scientific development, intellectual structure, and research trends of child sexual abuse research in social work through bibliometric methods. The study data were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database using different keywords referring to child sexual abuse. VOSviewer software was used to conduct the bibliometric analyses and visualize the relationships among authors, publications, references, and keywords. Analyses included publication trends over time, co-authorship, citation, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and keyword co-occurrence. The findings indicated that research on child sexual abuse in social work has increased markedly since 2017, with the highest number of publications recorded in 2024. The analyses further revealed that the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Israel occupy leading positions in scientific output and citation impact, while the University of Toronto, the University of New Hampshire, and the Queensland University of Technology are among the leading research institutions in the field. Finkelhor, Katz, Mathews, Lamb, and Collin-Vézina emerged as the most prominent researchers. Keyword co-occurrence analysis showed that the literature primarily focuses on child sexual abuse, child protection, trauma, disclosure of abuse, mental health outcomes, and prevention and intervention approaches. Overall, the findings suggest that the social work literature on child sexual abuse has expanded substantially in recent years, developed a well-established international scientific network, and provides a comprehensive framework for future research.

Özet

Çocuk cinsel istismarı, çocukların fiziksel, ruhsal ve sosyal gelişimini olumsuz etkileyen önemli bir çocuk koruma sorunu olup, sosyal hizmet disiplininde kapsamlı biçimde ele alınan araştırma alanlarından biridir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal hizmet alanında çocuk cinsel istismarı konulu araştırmaların bilimsel gelişimini, bilgi yapısını ve araştırma eğilimlerini bibliyometrik analizle incelemektir. Araştırmanın verileri, Web of Science Core Collection veri tabanında çocuk cinsel istismarını ifade eden farklı anahtar sözcükler kullanılarak elde edilmiştir.
