Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between nursing students’ threats of artificial intelligence and their perceptions of their career futures. The study is cross-sectional in nature. The population of the study consisted of fourth-year students enrolled in the nursing department of a university located in eastern Turkey. The sample comprised 180 students, determined through power analysis. For the purpose of data collection, the “Student Information Form” developed by the researchers and the “The Threats of Artificial Intelligence Scale (TAI)” and the “Career Futures Inventory (CFI)” were used. A weak statistically significant negative correlation was found between nursing students’ fear of artificial intelligence and their perception of career futures (r: −0.216, p < 0.001). A weak but statistically significant negative correlation was also found between AI fear and the sub-dimensions of career compatibility and perceived knowledge (r: −0.225 and r: −0.187, respectively; p<0.05). It was determined that the perception of career future is predicted by grade point average, the existence of a career plan, and fear of artificial intelligence (R² = .190, p<0.001). Consequently, it was established that fear of artificial intelligence is a significant variable influencing nursing students’ perception of their career future.
