Abstract
This study examines manuscripts and printed works in Ottoman Turkish and Arabic on the history of religions, held in various libraries across Turkey. The 61 identified works encompass subjects such as the history of religions, Christian apologetics (reddiye), the history of prophets, and interreligious polemics. The primary objective is to create a systematic bibliography of these works, correct errors in existing catalogue records, identify anonymous works, and provide a reliable dataset. The works have been classified according to their language of composition, date, and subject matter; incomplete or erroneous catalogue entries have been rectified. While focusing predominantly on printed works from the 19th and 20th centuries, the study also includes examples from Ottoman manuscript literature. The complete bibliographic records of significant authors such as Ahmed Midhat Efendi and Mehmed Şemseddin Günaltay have been identified, and attempts have been made to determine the authorship of anonymous works. The research provides significant data on the place of the history of religions within the Ottoman intellectual world, the nature of interreligious debates, and the historical course of academic development in this field. Works critiquing Christianity illuminate the atmosphere of interreligious relations and discourse of the period. This study underscores the necessity of re-evaluating classical sources in the field and aims to establish a fundamental reference for future research in the history of religions.
