Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence technologies are transforming traditional production methods in cinema and offering innovative possibilities across filmmaking processes. This study examines the role of generative AI tools in the film industry, focusing on the advantages they provide during the pre-production, production, and post-production stages, as well as their implications for individual storytelling through low-cost, rapid, and flexible production practices. It further discusses potential future opportunities and challenges associated with these technologies. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study is based on document analysis and conducts a case study of three short films selected through purposive sampling. While generative AI technologies enhance conventional filmmaking processes and introduce new creative possibilities, they also bring about potential risks such as job displacement, ethical concerns, and issues related to data privacy. Accordingly, this study aims to serve as a reference resource for academics, students, and industry professionals in the field of cinema by providing a comprehensive perspective on how the affordances of generative artificial intelligence can be utilized within the context of individual storytelling. Within this framework, the study argues that generative artificial intelligence should be conceptualized not merely as a cinematic technology, but as a digital transformation actor that reshapes creative industries within the broader ecosystem of communication technologies.
