Abstract

This study deeply analyzes the transformative impact of artificial intelligence technology on media and communication disciplines, particularly in the context of concepts such as reality, representation, and authorship. While AI applications offer significant advantages in terms of production and time efficiency in fields like cinema, television, journalism, and advertising, the fundamental problem lies in the issues of reality, representation, and authorship within texts developed using this technology. The study utilizes in-depth interview methods with experts from diverse fields, including cinema, sociology, law, psychology, and psychiatry. The findings show that artificial intelligence has led to a new ontological situation and epistemological upheaval that profoundly shakes our current perception of reality. The signs produced by artificial intelligence lack the concrete signifier emphasized by Ferdinand de Saussure. Furthermore, since these signs do not even refer to themselves, they prevent the associative transformation envisioned by Jacques Derrida’s concept of différance. This situation, which confirms Roland Barthes' emphasis on deconstructed, empty signs independent of the signified, risks dragging the field of meaning into a Nichts /nothing -centered void at the root of nihilism. In this context, the resulting situation is characterized as a hyperreality, as Baudrillard described, where the relationship between truth and fiction disappears. The study reveals that artificial intelligence fundamentally transforms the traditional “author-work-meaning” triad, while productive authority shifts from a singular subject to a distributed structure shared between prompt writers and data sets. The possibility of AI reusing its own outputs as inputs creates the risk of a recursive loop in representation and meaning production, potentially leading to a reduction in diversity and semantic degeneration. Preventing this transformation from evolving into destructive homogenization and the erosion of the perception of truth depends on critical human intervention and the development of an interdisciplinary ethical framework.
