Abstract

This study examines the macroeconomic factors affecting inflation dynamics in Türkiye using time series methods. The consumer price index is considered as the main variable, while the producer price index, real exchange rate, interest rate, Brent oil prices, and capacity utilization rate are included in the model. Monthly data covering the period 2007M01-2026M02 are used in the analysis. First, the stationarity properties of the series are examined through ADF, PP, KPSS, DF-GLS, ERS, and Ng-Perron unit root tests. Then, the appropriate lag length is determined and the Johansen cointegration test is applied. Since a long-run relationship among the variables is identified, the Vector Error Correction Model is estimated. In addition, Granger causality tests and variance decomposition analysis are employed to evaluate causal linkages and the explanatory power of shocks. The findings indicate the existence of a long-run equilibrium relationship among the variables. The VECM results suggest that consumer and producer prices play an important role in the adjustment toward long-run equilibrium. The Granger causality results also reveal strong dynamic interactions, particularly between price indicators and the exchange rate. Overall, the results show that inflation dynamics in Türkiye are closely associated with producer prices, exchange rate movements, oil prices, interest rates, and capacity utilization.
