Abstract
Georgia has aimed to join the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, but relations with Brussels have deteriorated following Tbilisi's adoption of the Foreign Influence Transparency Act in May 2024. The political atmosphere in Georgia has heightened concerns that Tbilisi's attempt to move closer to Europe will lead to the country's occupation. Georgia wanted to normalize relations with Russia on the one hand, while hoping to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on the other. However, it became clear that Russia would not allow the deepening of European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization policies in its backyard. Russia perceived all steps taken in the South Caucasus as a threat to itself. Although the United States tried to exert influence in the region through North Atlantic Treaty Organization, it became clear that this would not be easy, as seen in the Ukraine War. This study aims to reveal Georgia's process of joining the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Russia's stance in this context. The study uses process analysis, and the collected data has been subjected to qualitative content analysis. Hypothesis 1: Russia has opposed Georgia's goal of becoming a member of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Hypothesis 2: The hypothesis that Tbilisi's relations with the European Union have deteriorated due to the law on transparency of foreign influence adopted by the Georgian Parliament has been confirmed.
Hipotez 2: Gürcistan Parlamentosunda kabul edilen yabancı etkinin şeffaflığı yasasından dolayı Tiflis’in Avrupa Birliği ile ilişkileri bozulmuştur hipotezleri doğrulanmıştır.
