Abstract

Taraz is one of the oldest urban centers in Central Asia and has played a significant role in the historical development of the Turkic world. Besides its numerous historical architectural monuments, the city holds special importance in the cultural history of Turkic communities due to rich archaeological findings, including epigraphic, numismatic, and other material evidence. Situated on the Silk Road, Taraz functioned as a major center of civilization and exerted its influence over a vast geographical area extending from north of the Caspian Sea to the Western Desht-i Kipchak, and from the southern Caspian regions to Syria, Iraq, Anatolia, and the Balkans. It served as an important political, economic, and cultural hub that connected Central Asia with the western regions of the Turkic world, particularly Anatolia. This article examines the historical and architectural significance of Taraz within the framework of Turkic-Islamic civilization. Using comparative historical and architectural analysis, it investigates medieval monuments of Taraz and identifies their stylistic and structural similarities with Seljuk architectural traditions in Anatolia. The research is based on archaeological data, medieval written sources, and modern scholarly interpretations. The study emphasizes that Taraz represents a shared cultural heritage of the Turkic world and highlights the importance of preserving its historical monuments for future generations.
