Abstract

This book review evaluates William H. McNeill's The Human Condition (Turkish: Parazitler, Göçler ve Dünya Tarihi), which reconstructs human history from a biological and demographic perspective. The study interprets historical processes through the ecological balance between infectious diseases (microparasitism) and state governance (macroparasitism). The review specifically focuses on the author's findings regarding forced migration regimes (slavery) in the pre-1750 era and mass migration movements triggered by the post-1750 population explosion, within the framework of the "Great Frontier" concept. The book's core arguments and the ecological approach it introduces to historiography are discussed in the context of migration studies and demography.
