Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationships among internet addiction, food addiction, and free time management levels of university students. Conducted through a correlational design within the scope of quantitative research methods, the study sample consisted of 856 undergraduate students studying at Yalova University. Data were collected using the Short Form of Young’s Internet Addiction Test, the Modified Yale Food Addiction Scale, and the Free Time Management Scale, and analyzed with the SPSS 23.0 program. The findings indicated that there is a positive correlation between internet addiction and food addiction, while both variables are negatively correlated with free time management. Although no significant differences were found in internet addiction and free time management levels in terms of gender, smoking/alcohol use, and body mass index, differences were observed in food addiction levels according to body mass index. The results suggest that effective leisure management may act as a protective factor against behavioral addictions. It is recommended that educational programs aimed at improving leisure management skills be integrated into university curricula, recreational programs based on physical activity be expanded, and psychological counseling services be strengthened to reduce addiction risks among university students. Key Words: Leisure, behavioral addiction, recreation
